Q. How do you pronounce “Coelary”?

A. Coelary is pronounced like “coal-airy” or “koh-luh-ree”. You can pronounce it “koh-el-uh-ree” if you are feeling fancy. It is not pronounced like “celery”.

Q. What’s Coelary about? I mean besides bug people.

A. If all the themes in Coelary’s stories had to be boiled down into one overarching idea, then Coelary about the inheritance of sin (or the inheritance of trauma, or problems, etc).

Coelary stories are rooted in realism, and aim to both express and address the personal experiences and social issues that many adults face, and the way those two are related.

Q. Woah, slow down! Could you please explain “the inheritance of sin/trauma/problems”?

A. Sure! Every person is affected most strongly by the people that raise them, and often inherit many of their qualities and their flaws. The stories in Coelary are often centered around the struggles and suffering that is a direct result of the imperfect way they were raised, and the imperfect people who raised them.

In addition to this, Coelary is also themed on the inheritance of sin on a macro scale - that is, in terms of society as a whole. A society is constantly inheriting the results of the choices that the previous generation made, and Coelary is an extreme scenario where society was given a “hard reset” when the apocalypse destroyed all of the former humans, leaving only the bug people, and the ideas and artifacts that humans left behind.

Q. But… isn’t Coelary about bug people?

A. Yes! But also… no! Coelary features bug people, but the experiences conveyed by their stories are universal. The bugs are just the actors on the stage.

Q. Who is Coelary for?
